Small Things NewsBits: New Program Alert

Small Things received a grant from WW Smith Charitable Trust earlier this year to fund our Kids' Snacks Program. This program aims to teach nutritional awareness and foster healthy eating habits.

We worked with Lindsay Watts, MS, RDN, and Senior Nutrition Communications Analyst at Campbell Soup Company to learn what constitutes a ‘healthy snack’. The criteria include that it must be under 200 calories, have less than 10 grams of added sugar, less than 2 grams of saturated fat, and less than 200 mg of sodium. The snack should also include at least two of the following food groups: fruit, vegetables, low-fat dairy, and whole grains.

Thanks to the grant, we will be packing 24,000 healthy snacks to be distributed to nutritionally focused partners. We kicked off the program last week at Agnes Irwin Girls School, where high schoolers packed 3,000 bags of no-sugar-added juice and whole grain pretzels in no time.

We want to say a special thank you to all involved in funding and supporting this program!
